Published 2023 Major Portion Gas Prices
The Office of Natural Resources Revenue published monthly "major portion" gas prices for calendar year 2023 for four ONRR-designated areas not tied to an index zone: Fort Berthold Reservation, Fort Peck Reservation, Navajo Allotted Leases in the Navajo Reservation, and Turtle Mountain Reservation. The published prices are listed in a table as dollars per MMBtu for each month (examples include Jan 2023: Fort Berthold $4.38 and Navajo Allotted Leases $27.43; May 2023 lows include $1.47).
June 30, 2025 Royalty Payment Deadline
If you owe additional royalties based on the published major portion prices for 2023, you must pay them by June 30, 2025. Payments received after that date will start accruing late payment interest.
Late Interest Accrues Under 30 CFR 1218.54
If a lessee fails to pay additional royalties by the June 30, 2025 due date, late payment interest begins to accrue under 30 CFR 1218.54 from the due date until ONRR receives payment. Interest will continue to accumulate until the payment is received.
Must File Amended ONRR-2014 Report
If additional royalties are owed, a lessee must submit an amended ONRR-2014 Report of Sales and Royalty Remittance to ONRR and pay the additional royalties by the June 30, 2025 due date. For reporting instructions, ONRR refers lessees to its December 1, 1999 Dear Payor letter.
