If you operate a general aviation (GA) aircraft and want to fly into or out of Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA), you must designate a security coordinator and adopt a DCA Access Standard Security Program (DASSP). After meeting DASSP requirements, you must request a slot reservation from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and request TSA authorization for each DCA flight.
Fingerprinting and CHRC record rules
People serving as security coordinators, Armed Security Officers (ASOs), and flight crewmembers on GA flights into or out of DCA must submit fingerprints for a Criminal History Records Check (CHRC). GA aircraft operators must also keep CHRC records for all employees and authorized representatives for whom a CHRC has been completed.
Armed Security Officer vetting and training
Under the Armed Security Officer (ASO) Program, DASSP-approved entities can nominate candidates through an online form; candidates must provide application materials, undergo a law enforcement employment verification check, submit fingerprints for a CHRC, and receive a final adjudication. All approved ASO candidates must successfully complete a TSA-approved training course before serving.
