Summary

SAMHSA is giving extra money to 59 states and territories that already get Community Mental Health Services Block Grants. This boost follows a special formula based on population and service costs, helping them improve mental health support. The new funds must be used by September 30, 2026, so recipients have time to make a real difference.

Analyzed Economic Effects

3 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 1 costs, 1 mixed.

Supplemental MHBG Technical Funds

SAMHSA is awarding supplemental administrative/technical assistance funds to the 59 eligible Community Mental Health Services Block Grant (MHBG) recipients funded under the FFY 2024-2025 Combined Block Grant Application (OMB Control Number 0930-0168). These are administrative supplements in the scope of the parent award.

Allocation Follows Statutory Formula

The supplemental technical assistance funds will be distributed to states and territories according to the statutory MHBG formula in 42 U.S. Code Sec. 300x-7, which considers the population at risk, the cost of providing services, and other relevant factors.

Use Funds By September 30, 2026

Recipients must obligate/use these awards by the project end date of September 30, 2026. The awards are supplements tied to the FFY 2024-2025 parent awards.
