Salida Hydro Could Cease Operations
Public Service Company of Colorado filed on January 16, 2026 to surrender the license for the Salida Hydroelectric Project (P-2275-052), located about 6 miles west of Poncha Springs in Chaffee County, Colorado. The company proposes to decommission and remove Salida U2 facilities (forebay, dam, penstock, outbuildings) and the decommissioned Salida U1 powerhouse and adjacent substation on U.S. Forest Service, PSCo-owned, and private lands; after removal the site would be restored. If the project stops operating, local water and local power use in the immediate Salida/Poncha Springs area could be affected.
