Pipeline Firm Wants to Scrap Unfinished Pig Launcher Approval

Published Date: 4/13/2026

Notice

Summary

MountainWest Overthrust Pipeline built most of its gas pipeline project but hit a snag finishing one part called the Cabin 31 pig launcher because of land permission delays. Since the rest works fine and delivers full gas capacity, they asked the government to cancel the approval for that unfinished part for now. This means no extra costs or delays for customers, but the company plans to finish Cabin 31 later to keep things safe and smooth.

Company Seeks to Vacate Cabin 31 Authorization

On March 11, 2026, MountainWest Overthrust asked FERC to vacate the part of its October 17, 2024 certificate that authorized construction of the Cabin 31 pig launcher. Commission staff authorized placing the other completed Project facilities into service on November 13, 2025, and Overthrust reported it can provide the full incremental capacity of 325,000 dekatherms per day without Cabin 31; the company said it will install Cabin 31 later for future maintenance and safety.
