CDC maritime disease prevention

CDC has submitted an information collection called "Maritime-related Public Health Activities" (OMB Control 0920-1335) to gather reports about illness and deaths on ships. The collection is intended to help CDC prevent the introduction, transmission, and spread of communicable diseases from ships into the United States and between states, and to inform whether public health response and follow-up are needed.

Paperwork burden for ship operators

If you are a maritime vessel operator or a ship clinician, CDC proposes several reporting forms that together are estimated to cause 836 annual burden hours. Examples in the notice include a Maritime Conveyance Illness or Death Investigation Form (500 respondents, 1 response each, 10 minutes per response) and Cruise Ship Cumulative Acute Respiratory Illness reporting (100 respondents, 40 responses, 10 minutes each), plus other forms with specified respondent counts and time-per-response estimates.
