If you are a member or representative of the Absentee-Shawnee Tribe of Indians of Oklahoma, Eastern Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma, or the Shawnee Tribe, 314 associated funerary objects have been identified as culturally affiliated with those groups and may be repatriated. The items were inventoried by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and repatriation may occur on or after May 18, 2026.
Who May Request Repatriation
You may request repatriation if you are any one or more of the Indian Tribes named in the notice, or if you are a lineal descendant or another Indian Tribe or Native Hawaiian organization that shows by a preponderance of the evidence cultural affiliation. Repatriation requests must be sent to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Huntington District (contact: Ms. Ashley Taylor, 502 Eighth Street, Huntington, WV 25701 or the email address listed in the notice), and repatriation may occur on or after May 18, 2026; competing requests will be resolved by the Corps.
