Who Gets Federal Funding for CHIP

If your child needs CHIP, federal financial participation (FFP) for full CHIP coverage is limited to U.S. citizens or U.S. nationals and only three groups of noncitizens: lawful permanent residents, Cuban/Haitian entrants, and COFA (Compact of Free Association) migrants. CMS calls these the "FFP-eligible noncitizens."

90-Day CHIP Coverage During Verification

The CHIP State Plan template requires that a State will provide coverage during a reasonable opportunity period (ROP) of at least 90 days while eligibility is being verified. This means your child could get CHIP coverage for at least 90 days during the verification process.
