Repatriation Available to Affiliated Tribes

If you are a member or representative of the Alabama-Coushatta Tribe of Texas or The Muscogee (Creek) Nation, the University of Texas at San Antonio has determined a cultural affiliation and the two Native American individuals and five associated funerary objects may be repatriated starting May 26, 2026.

Who Can Request Repatriation

Repatriation requests may be submitted by the Alabama-Coushatta Tribe of Texas or The Muscogee (Creek) Nation, or by any lineal descendant, Indian Tribe, or Native Hawaiian organization that shows by a preponderance of the evidence a cultural affiliation. If competing requests are received, the Center for Archaeological Research must determine the most appropriate requestor, and requests submitted jointly are treated as a single request; repatriation may occur on or after May 26, 2026.

No Known Hazardous Treatment Identified

The University reports that no known hazardous substances were used to treat the two human remains and five associated funerary objects. If you are considering accepting these items, the Center for Archaeological Research has stated there are no known hazardous treatments associated with them.
