HUD expands data sharing for fraud detection

HUD is adding a uniform routine use that lets it share records from multiple HUD systems with Federal and non‑Federal entities (including contractors and agents) to detect, prevent, and remediate fraud, waste, abuse, and improper payments and to protect taxpayer funds. The change applies to named HUD systems such as the Single Family Insurance System, ONAP-LOS, PASS-R, and others listed in the notice. Comments are accepted through May 28, 2026 and the change is scheduled to take effect the day after the comment period ends (May 29, 2026) unless comments change that outcome.

HUD may verify funds before payment

HUD will disclose records when necessary and relevant to verify pre-award and prepayment requirements before releasing Federal funds, and to prevent or recover improper payments for services under HUD programs. That verification/disclosure authority applies to the same listed HUD systems and is intended to support program integrity and financial accountability. The rule is proposed with comments due May 28, 2026 and would become effective on May 29, 2026 unless changed by comments.
