Published Date: 4/29/2026

Rule

Summary

The FAA is updating the rules for how pilots approach and take off from certain airports to keep flights safe and smooth. These changes happen because of new tech, obstacles, or air traffic needs, and they take effect on April 29, 2026. Pilots and airports will need to follow the new procedures, but there’s no big cost impact—just safer skies for everyone!

Analyzed Economic Effects

4 provisions identified: 4 benefits, 0 costs, 0 mixed.

New Instrument Flight Procedures

The FAA is establishing, amending, suspending, or removing Standard Instrument Approach Procedures (SIAPs), Takeoff Minimums, and Obstacle Departure Procedures (ODPs) for specific airports to promote safe instrument flight operations. These changes are based on TERPS criteria and apply to the listed airports in the amendatory language.

Compliance Dates and Immediate Effect

The rule is effective April 29, 2026, and the compliance date for each procedure is specified in the amendatory provisions; some procedures become effective at 0901 UTC on the listed dates. The rule also allows some SIAP and Takeoff Minimum amendments to be made effective in less than 30 days or immediately when previously issued as an emergency Flight Data Center (FDC) NOTAM.

Free Access to Procedure Charts

All SIAPs, Takeoff Minimums, and ODPs are available online free of charge from the National Flight Data Center (nfdc.faa.gov). Individual copies may also be obtained from the FAA Air Traffic Organization Service Area that covers the affected airport.

Minimal Economic Impact on Small Entities

The FAA certifies that this amendment will not have a significant economic impact on a substantial number of small entities under the Regulatory Flexibility Act. The FAA states the anticipated impact is minimal and does not warrant a regulatory evaluation under Executive Order 12866.
