CDC Extends Tobacco Message Testing
CDC plans to extend the Message Testing for Tobacco Communication Activities (MTTCA) for three years and will continue recruiting adults nationwide to test tobacco-related messages. The clearance would authorize the same total of 148,324 respondents and 20,039 annualized burden hours over a three-year period; typical activities include 2-minute screening, 20-minute short online surveys, 25-minute medium online surveys, 1.5-hour focus groups, and 1-hour in-depth interviews. Participation is voluntary and there are no monetary costs to respondents; comments are due by July 6, 2026.

This Order was issued on August 12, 2026, and shall remain in effect through 4:59 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) on Friday, September 11, 2026. This Order may be amended or rescinded prior to that time at the discretion of the Director.
