Temporary Safety Zones Enforced on Water
The Coast Guard will enforce safety zones during listed events on specific dates and times: June 19, 2026 (9:00 p.m.–11:30 p.m.), July 3, 2026 (8:45 p.m.–10:30 p.m.), July 4, 2026 (9:30 p.m.–11:00 p.m.), July 11, 2026 (6:30 a.m.–11:30 a.m.), and July 25, 2026 (8:30/9:00 p.m.–11:30 p.m.). During those times, entering, transiting, or anchoring in the regulated areas is prohibited unless authorized by the Captain of the Port Eastern Great Lakes or a designated representative.
Permission Process and Required Conduct
If you need to enter a safety zone during enforcement, you must request permission from the Captain of the Port Eastern Great Lakes via VHF-FM channel 16 and obey any directions from the Captain or their representative. Vessels allowed in a safety zone must operate at the minimum speed necessary to maintain a safe course.
Advance Notices and Possible Early Reopening
The Coast Guard will give advance notice of enforcement to the maritime community via Broadcast Notice to Mariners or Local Notice to Mariners. If the Captain of the Port determines a safety zone need not be enforced for the full stated duration, the Coast Guard may use a Broadcast Notice to grant general permission to enter earlier.
