Paperwork Time Burden for Firefighters

If you are a U.S. firefighter, enrolling in the National Firefighter Registry for Cancer is voluntary but will take time: Informed Consent (5 minutes), NFR User Profile (5 minutes), and the Enrollment Questionnaire (20 minutes) — about 30 minutes total per enrollee. Select departments may face an additional Records Request of 16 hours (this applies to an estimated 30 firefighters); CDC estimates 17,157 annual burden hours and says there is no cost other than your time.

Registry Aims to Improve Firefighter Cancer Data

The registry is a voluntary program to collect health and occupational information to monitor cancer incidence and risks among U.S. firefighters and to inform decision makers so they can create policies to lessen cancer risk or improve early detection. NIOSH seeks to enroll at least 33,333 firefighters annually, has an overall enrollment goal of 200,000, and the project is authorized through 2028.
