Notice

Summary

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), within the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), is seeking nominations for membership on the World Trade Center (WTC) Health Program Scientific/Technical Advisory Committee (STAC), in accordance with provisions of the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act of 2010, as amended. The STAC consists of 17 members including experts in fields associated with occupational medicine, pulmonary medicine, environmental medicine, environmental health, industrial hygiene, epidemiology, toxicology, and mental health, and representatives of WTC responders as well as representatives of certified-eligible WTC survivors.

Analyzed Economic Effects

4 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 3 costs, 0 mixed.

Opportunity to Join WTC STAC

You can be nominated to serve on the World Trade Center (WTC) Health Program Scientific/Technical Advisory Committee (STAC). Nominations are due no later than November 13, 2026, and members may be invited to serve four-year terms; categories sought include occupational physician, environmental medicine/environmental health professional, and representative of WTC responders.

Eligibility Limits for Nominees

Nominees must be U.S. citizens and cannot be full-time employees of the U.S. Government. HHS policy also seeks balance of viewpoints and avoids excessive individual service on advisory committees.

Appointment Requires Financial Disclosure

Selected committee members are designated Special Government Employees and must file financial disclosure reports at the beginning of and annually during their terms. Serving as an SGE carries this reporting requirement while on the STAC.

Nomination Materials and Selection Timeline

To be considered, candidates must submit a current curriculum vitae, the membership category they seek, a summary of qualifications (including whether they are enrolled in the WTC Health Program), and at least one letter of recommendation from someone not employed by HHS. Nominations may be submitted by the candidate or a recommender, and selected candidates are notified near the start of the term in October after NIOSH, CDC, and HHS review.
