Louisiana to Sell Three Acres for Venture Global LNG Hub
Published Date: 6/1/2026
Notice
Summary
The government is planning to sell about 3 acres of public land in Cameron Parish, Louisiana, directly to Venture Global, a company building a big natural gas hub. This sale helps their project grow and will happen at fair market value after a 45-day comment period ending July 16, 2026. If you care about this land, now’s the time to speak up!
Analyzed Economic Effects
6 provisions identified: 2 benefits, 3 costs, 1 mixed.
Minerals will be reserved to the United States
If the land is conveyed, all minerals will be reserved to the United States and the United States will retain the right to prospect for, mine, and remove mineral deposits. The conveyance will explicitly reserve mineral rights to the federal government.
Environmental review may require an EIS
The BLM is preparing an Environmental Assessment (EA) for the proposed sale. If the EA finds no significant impacts the BLM will issue a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI); if significant impacts are identified, the BLM will prepare an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS).
Non-competitive sale of 2.97 acres
The Bureau of Land Management proposes a non-competitive direct sale of about 2.97 acres in Cameron Parish, Louisiana to Cameron Land Ventures LLC (an affiliate of Venture Global LNG, Inc.) to support development of an LNG hub. The land would be conveyed only to that private entity rather than offered in open competition.
Sale at appraised fair market value
The sale would occur for no less than the appraised fair market value, and the appraisal will be completed before any sale takes place. That means the parcel will not be sold for less than its appraised value.
Land segregated from other claims until sale completion
Publication of this notice segregates the 2.97-acre parcel from all forms of appropriation under public land laws, so the BLM will not accept land use applications affecting this parcel until the sale is complete. That segregation ends on issuance of a patent, publication of termination, or on June 1, 2028 unless extended.
45-day public comment window (ends July 16, 2026)
Interested parties may submit written comments on the proposed direct sale; comments must be postmarked or delivered by July 16, 2026 (45 days from publication). The BLM will review adverse comments and may sustain, vacate, or modify the action; in the absence of timely objections the action becomes final.
