Summary

The Bureau of Land Management is stopping the plan to update the Buffalo Field Office’s land use rules in Wyoming. This change takes effect immediately, saving time and resources while keeping things steady for local communities and businesses.

Coal Acreage Availability Maintained

The Secretary implemented section 50203 of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act making 2,338,995 BLM-administered coal acres available, and the Buffalo planning area now has a combined allocation of 2,614,310 BLM-administered coal acres available for further consideration for leasing. That acreage allocation is being maintained under the existing 2015 plan as amended in 2019.

2024 Plan Amendment Canceled; 2015 Plan Stays

If you live, work, or run a business in the Buffalo Field Office area of Wyoming, the 2024 Resource Management Plan Amendment was disapproved by Congress on December 11, 2025 (Public Law 119-51) and is treated as though it never took effect. The 2015 Buffalo Field Office Resource Management Plan, as amended in November 2019 and otherwise amended, remains in effect immediately as of this notice (published June 4, 2026).
