Extra June Halibut Fishing Days

NMFS added six extra recreational Pacific halibut fishing dates in the Columbia River subarea: June 8, 9, 15, 16, 22, and 23, 2026. This action is effective June 8, 2026 and aims to help anglers and charter businesses use the Columbia River subarea allocation of 19,299 pounds (8.8 metric tons); through May 17, 2026, 4,579 pounds (2.1 metric tons) or about 24% had been landed.

Allocation-Based Closure or Later Reopening

NMFS will close the Columbia River subarea early if the subarea allocation is projected to be reached before June 30, 2026. If allocation remains after June 30 and is enough for another full day of fishing, NMFS may reopen the subarea in August through September for up to 7 days per week.
