Extension Keeps FWS Wage Reporting
The Department proposes to extend, without change, the information collection that gathers Federal Work Study (FWS) wages from participating institutions. The collection covers State, local, and tribal governments and private sector institutions, with an estimated 415,997 annual responses and 62,400 annual burden hours; the Department is removing 200 hours from that total burden calculation.
Department Must Get FWS Income From Schools
Under section 483(a)(2)(F) of the Higher Education Act, the Department must collect an applicant's income earned under the FWS program from the participating institution of higher education (IHE) and may not add extra questions to the FAFSA to get that information. That means the IHEs supply FWS earnings data rather than adding more FAFSA questions for applicants.
