Summary

The USDA wants to change the rules for bringing fresh pineapples from the Philippines and Thailand into the U.S. Right now, pineapples from the Philippines can only enter certain areas, and Thailand’s pineapples need special treatment. The new plan could let all pineapple types from both countries enter all U.S. ports, with or without treatment, but they’re asking for your thoughts by August 10, 2026.

Philippines Pineapples May Enter All U.S. Ports

Currently, fresh pineapple from the Philippines is allowed into Guam, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, and the North Atlantic region of the United States. APHIS is considering authorizing fresh pineapple from the Philippines to be imported into all U.S. ports and is accepting public comments through August 10, 2026.

Thailand Pineapples Could Be Allowed Without Irradiation

Today, pineapple from Thailand may be imported into all U.S. ports except Hawaii only if it receives an irradiation treatment. Thailand has asked APHIS to allow pineapples into all U.S. ports (including Hawaii) without the irradiation treatment, and APHIS is seeking public comment on that request through August 10, 2026.
