Poultry Operations Face Brief Survey Burden
If you operate upland gamebird operations (chukars, pheasants, quail, Hungarian partridges, or guineas) with inventories of at least 500 head, or you represent a large duck company, APHIS may ask you to respond to the Poultry 2027 study. APHIS estimates 2,812 annual respondents, 4 responses per respondent (9,320 total responses), an average burden of 0.195 hours per response, and an estimated total annual burden of 1,816 hours; comments are due October 5, 2026.
Study Data Will Inform Animal Health Resources
You will get descriptive reports from NAHMS showing national and regional production measures, biosecurity practices, and preparedness for animal health emergencies (including highly pathogenic avian influenza). APHIS will disseminate these reports to producers, stakeholders, veterinarians, and others to help advance animal health, productivity, and marketability.
Participation Is Voluntary and Confidential
Participation in the NAHMS Poultry 2027 study is voluntary and APHIS states that all data collected will be confidential. Surveys will be administered with multiple response options (mail, web, telephone, electronic, or paper) and results will be used in aggregate reports.

The USDA says Bayer/Monsanto’s MON 87429 maize, a special corn engineered to resist several herbicides and help make hybrid seeds, is no longer regulated starting August 5, 2026. This means farmers and seed producers can grow and sell this corn more easily without extra government rules. It’s a big win for agriculture, helping farmers protect crops and boost seed production without extra costs or delays.
2026-15092, Notice of Availability of Pest Risk Analysis for the Interstate Movement of Fresh Turmeric Rhizomes for Consumption From Puerto Rico Into the Continental United States
We are advising the public that we have prepared a pest risk analysis that evaluates the risks associated with the interstate movement of fresh turmeric rhizomes (Curcuma longa L.) for consumption from Puerto Rico into the continental United States. Based on the analysis, we have determined that the application of one or more designated phytosanitary measures will be sufficient to mitigate the risks of introducing or disseminating plant pests or noxious weeds via the interstate movement of fresh turmeric rhizomes from Puerto Rico. We are making the pest risk analysis available to the public for review and comment.
