Notice

Summary

Pecan growers in 16 states will vote from July 6 to August 3, 2026, on whether to keep the current rules that help manage pecan marketing. Only growers who produce a lot of pecans or own enough pecan acres can vote. This decision affects how pecans are handled and could impact growers’ costs and sales in the future.

Referendum Could End Marketing Order

USDA will count the votes and requires at least two-thirds of growers by number and two-thirds of the pecan volume represented in the referendum to vote yes for the marketing order to be favored. If less than two-thirds by number and less than two-thirds of the pecan volume vote in favor, USDA will consider terminating the marketing order and will also weigh other information about benefits and costs to growers, handlers, and consumers.

Who Can Vote in Referendum

The referendum runs July 6 through August 3, 2026, and only pecan growers in the listed production area may vote. To be eligible you must have produced an average of at least 50,000 pounds of inshell pecans over October 1, 2021, to September 30, 2025, or own at least 30 pecan acres; ballots must show proof of delivery by 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time on August 3, 2026, or they will not be counted.
