Murray State University has determined that human remains representing at least five Native American individuals are culturally affiliated with the Cherokee Nation; Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians; and The Osage Nation. The remains came from Savage Cave (site 15Lo11) in Logan County, Kentucky.

Who Can Request Repatriation

If you are a member of the Cherokee Nation, Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, or The Osage Nation, you may submit a written request for repatriation to the Murray State University Archaeology Laboratory. Repatriation may occur on or after July 22, 2026; requests may also be submitted by any lineal descendant or by an Indian Tribe or Native Hawaiian organization (not listed) that shows cultural affiliation by a preponderance of the evidence.
