U.S. Extends Duties on Indian Matchbooks
Published Date: 6/29/2026
Notice
Summary
The U.S. is keeping special taxes on matchbooks from India because stopping them could hurt American businesses. These taxes, called antidumping and countervailing duties, help stop unfair pricing and unfair government help from India. Starting June 15, 2026, importers will still have to pay these duties to protect U.S. industries and jobs.

Importers Must Continue Paying Duties
Starting June 15, 2026, importers of commodity matchbooks from India must continue to pay antidumping (AD) and countervailing (CVD) cash deposits. U.S. Customs and Border Protection will collect these AD and CVD cash deposits at the rates in effect at the time of entry for all imports of the subject merchandise.
Which Matchbooks Are Covered or Excluded
The Orders cover 'commodity matchbooks' (also called commodity book matches) that typically have about twenty paperboard stems and enter retail channels, and they are generally classified under HTSUS 3605.00.0060 (and may enter under 3605.00.0030). The Orders exclude 'promotional' or 'not for resale' matchbooks that prominently display the name/logo/address/phone of an establishment, and they exclude other match types not fastened into a matchbook cover (for example, wooden or stick matches).
