Five Pottery Sherds Ready for Repatriation

The Denver Art Museum has identified five pottery sherds (accession numbers 1934.124–1934.128) from the Garoga Site in Jefferson County, NY, that are affiliated with several named Nations. Those affiliated groups may request the return; repatriation may occur on or after August 7, 2026. Written requests should be sent to Jennie Trujillo, Denver Art Museum, 100 W 14th Avenue Parkway, Denver, CO 80203.

Who May Request Repatriation and How Requests Are Handled

Requests for repatriation may be submitted by any of the listed Indian Tribes, by any lineal descendant, or by another tribe or organization that shows by a preponderance of the evidence a cultural affiliation. If competing requests are received, the Denver Art Museum must determine the most appropriate requestor, and joint requests are treated as a single request. Repatriation may occur on or after August 7, 2026.
