Refugee Cash and Medical Aid Doubles
If you are an ORR-eligible refugee, the time you can get Refugee Cash Assistance (RCA) and Refugee Medical Assistance (RMA) was increased from 4 months to 8 months. This change is effective upon publication (July 14, 2026) and applies to individuals whose eligibility date is on or after January 1, 2026, provided they meet program rules. States have up to 30 days to make system or operational changes to implement the expansion.
Possible Additional or Retroactive Payments
If you received fewer than eight months of RCA or RMA because the eligibility period was previously limited to 4 months, your State or Replacement Designee may give you extra months of assistance up to the new 8-month maximum. States or RDs may also pay you retroactively for unpaid months within your eight-month eligibility period if you met all program eligibility rules during those months.
