Potawatomi Bandolier Bag Repatriation

Ball State University intends to return one Potawatomi bandolier bag (catalog number 2018.051.006) to affiliated Potawatomi tribes. The repatriation may occur on or after August 14, 2026, and the named affiliated groups include the Citizen Potawatomi Nation; Forest County Potawatomi Community; Hannahville Indian Community; Match-E-Be-Nash-She-Wish Band of Pottawatomi; Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi; Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians; and the Prairie Band of Potawatomi Nation.

Who Can Request Repatriation

Any lineal descendant, Indian Tribe, or Native Hawaiian organization not already listed may send a written request to Ball State University to ask for the bandolier bag. Requestors must show by a preponderance of the evidence that they are a lineal descendant or culturally affiliated, Ball State will decide among competing requests, and joint requests count as a single request; repatriation may occur on or after August 14, 2026.
