The Department of Transportation created the Arctic Shipping Federal Advisory Committee and is seeking up to 17 members. Nominations for immediate consideration must be received by 5:00 p.m. on September 22, 2026; nine positions are open for the 2026–2028 charter term and MARAD will keep accepting nominations for up to two years after the deadline to fill vacancies.
No salary; travel may be reimbursed
ASFAC members will not receive a salary for participation. While attending meetings or doing Committee business, members may be reimbursed for travel and per diem under Federal travel rules, but reimbursement is subject to funding availability.
Who can serve and who is barred
Appointments are two-year terms and members may not serve more than two consecutive terms; members will be designated as Special Government Employees or Representatives. Registered lobbyists are prohibited from serving in their individual capacities, unless specifically appointed to represent a nongovernmental group or government entity.
