Summary

The ATF is asking to keep the current Form 4473 for gun sales without changes for now, while they carefully review public feedback and related rule updates. This pause helps gun sellers keep using a valid form without interruption. After this, ATF will share the feedback and any updates, giving everyone 30 days to comment again.

Form 4473 Continuity for Sellers

On July 29, 2026, ATF said it will ask OMB to extend the existing information-collection approval for Form 4473 (ICR 1140-0020) without change so that the form remains valid. The existing ICR is expiring at the end of August 2026, and ATF said this extension will let federal firearms licensees keep using the current Form 4473 while ATF reviews public comments; ATF will later publish a 30-day notice summarizing comments and any changes.
