Museum Intends Repatriation to Agua Caliente

Beloit College's Logan Museum of Anthropology intends to repatriate one object of cultural patrimony — a ceramic olla (catalog 15301) — that it has affiliated with the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians. The museum does not assert a right of possession, and the repatriation may occur on or after September 14, 2026.

Who Can Request Repatriation and Process

Any lineal descendant, Indian Tribe, or Native Hawaiian organization not named in the notice may send a written request for repatriation to Nicolette B. Meister at Beloit College (700 College Street, Beloit, WI 53511) or the provided email, and must show by a preponderance of the evidence that they are a lineal descendant or culturally affiliated. If competing requests are received, the museum must determine the most appropriate requestor; joint repatriation requests count as a single request. Repatriation may occur on or after September 14, 2026.
