The Autry Museum says the human remains of five individuals and 47 associated funerary objects are culturally affiliated with specific Indian Tribes or Native Hawaiian organizations. Who may request repatriation and timing
Repatriation requests may be submitted by any one or more of the tribes or Native Hawaiian organizations named in this notice, or by a lineal descendant or other tribe/organization that shows by a preponderance of the evidence they are a lineal descendant or culturally affiliated. Repatriation to an approved requestor may occur on or after September 14, 2026; if competing requests are received the Autry Museum must determine the most appropriate requestor, and joint requests are treated as a single request.
