IRS sharing tax data for benefit checks
If you apply for or receive federally assisted benefits (for example, programs under title IV, Medicaid under title XIX, Supplemental Security Income under title XVI, unemployment, SNAP, or certain veterans' needs-based pensions), the IRS can share unearned income return information from the Information Returns Master File (e.g., Forms 1099-DIV, 1099-INT, W-2G) with those agencies. When there is a match, the IRS may disclose payee account number, payee name and mailing address, payee taxpayer identification number (TIN), payer name and address, payer TIN, and income type and amount. This computer matching runs February 14, 2026 through June 30, 2027 and may become effective September 1, 2026 if no public comments are received within 30 days of publication.
Monthly checks for applicants; annual beneficiary checks
Participating recipient agencies may request IRS unearned income information monthly for new applicants and may request information for all beneficiaries once per year. Agency requests must include each individual's Social Security Number and name control; IRS will return one or more response records per individual when matched.
Louisiana agency participation changes
The Louisiana Department of Health is modifying its Computer Matching Agreement with the IRS to amend the programs it administers, and the Louisiana Department of Children and Families will no longer participate in the DIFSLA Computer Matching Program. These changes apply to Louisiana state program administration under the DIFSLA agreement during the match period (February 14, 2026 through June 30, 2027).
