Peabody Institute of Archaeology (RSPI) has completed an inventory of human remains and has determined that there is a cultural affiliation between the human remains and Indian Tribes or Native Hawaiian organizations in this notice.

Museum Links Remains to Quapaw Nation

The Robert S. Peabody Institute of Archaeology completed an inventory and determined the human remains represent one Native American individual and have a connection with the Quapaw Nation. The remains were removed from an unknown location in Arkansas and were likely transferred to the museum in the early 20th century.

Repatriation Eligible Starting September 23, 2026

Repatriation of the human remains may occur on or after September 23, 2026. Written requests must be sent to Ryan J. Wheeler, RSPI, Phillips Academy, 180 Main Street, Andover, MA 01810 or by email to [email protected]; requests may be submitted by the tribes named in the notice or by lineal descendants or other tribes/organizations who show, by a preponderance of the evidence, cultural affiliation.
