In accordance with the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA), the Nassau County Department of Parks, Recreation, and Museums--Garvies Point Museum and Preserve has completed an inventory of human remains and has determined that there is a cultural affiliation between the human remains and Indian Tribes or Native Hawaiian organizations in this notice.

Cultural Affiliation Established for Remains
The Garvies Point Museum identified human remains representing at least three Native American individuals and determined they are culturally affiliated with the Delaware Nation (Oklahoma), the Delaware Tribe of Indians, and the Stockbridge Munsee Community (Wisconsin). The remains were recovered from localities in Throg's Neck and the Archery Range site, Pelham Bay Park, Bronx, New York.
Who Can Request Repatriation and When
Repatriation requests may be submitted by any one or more of the Indian Tribes or Native Hawaiian organizations identified in this notice, or by any lineal descendant or tribe who shows by a preponderance of the evidence that they are culturally affiliated. Repatriation of these human remains may occur on or after September 23, 2026; requests must be sent to Veronica Natale at Garvies Point Museum and Preserve (50 Barry Drive, Glen Cove, NY 11542) or the email provided in the notice. If competing requests are received, the museum must decide the most appropriate requestor; joint repatriation requests are treated as a single request.
