Summary

The Coast Guard is establishing a temporary safety zone for navigable waters of the Chesapeake Bay, adjacent to the shoreline at Sandy Point State Park and between and adjacent to the spans of the William P. Lane Jr. Memorial Bridges, near Annapolis, MD. The safety zone is needed to protect personnel, vessels, and the marine environment from potential hazards associated with a kayak race. Entry of vessels or persons into this zone is prohibited unless specifically authorized by the Captain of the Port, Sector Maryland--National Capital Region (NCR), or their designated representative.

Lane Jr. Memorial Bridges, you may not enter the marked safety zone on September 13, 2026 from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Entry by vessels or persons is prohibited during that time unless specifically authorized by the Captain of the Port, Sector Maryland–National Capital Region.

How To Get Zone Authorization

If you need to enter the safety zone on September 13, 2026 between 8:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., you must get permission from the Captain of the Port or the COTP's designated representative. To seek permission, contact them on VHF‑FM channel 16 or by telephone at (443) 257‑4011 and follow any lawful directions given.
