Analyzed Economic Effects

3 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 2 costs, 0 mixed.

Mandatory catch and landing reports

If you run a commercial ocean salmon fishing operation off Washington, Oregon, or California, you must report catches and landings to the appropriate state or tribal agencies as required by federal rules (see 50 CFR 660.404 and 660.408(o)). The collection estimates 40 respondents, an average 15 minutes per response, and a total annual burden of 10 hours (OMB Control Number 0648-0433).

Emergency exemption with notification

Commercial salmon fishermen can be exempted from landing requirements when they experience unsafe weather or mechanical problems at sea, but they must make appropriate notifications (for example by at-sea radio or cellular telephone) and provide catch and other required information under this collection. Annual management measures will specify the contents and procedures and the recipients of those notifications (for example, the U.S. Coast Guard).

California 24-hour electronic landing entry

If you land California Coastal Chinook salmon in California, the State requires the fish ticket with the number of Chinook landed to be entered into the California Department of Fish and Wildlife electronic landing database, and NMFS requires that this be completed within 24 hours of landing. This supports staying within established quotas for the California commercial salmon troll fishery.
