More Farm Price Forms: Paperwork Lives On

Published Date: 9/11/2026

Notice

Summary

In accordance with the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995, this notice announces the intention of the National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) to request revision and extension of a currently approved information collection, the Agricultural Prices Surveys. Revision to burden hours may be needed due to changes in the size of the target population, sampling design, and/or questionnaire length.

Analyzed Economic Effects

3 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 1 costs, 1 mixed.

Survey data inform crop insurance payments

The price data collected are used by the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation to help determine payment rates, program option levels, and disaster programs. That means the survey results feed into how crop insurance and disaster program parameters are set.

Survey time burden on farmers

You are asked to respond if you are a farmer or farm-related business. NASS expects about 40,000 respondents, about 4.1 responses per respondent per year, each response taking 5–20 minutes, for an estimated total annual burden of 26,000 hours. NASS requests revision and a three-year extension of this collection.

Confidentiality protections for respondents

Individually identifiable data collected are governed by 7 U.S.C. 2276 (Food Security Act confidentiality) and the Confidential Information Protection and Statistical Efficiency Act (CIPSEA) of 2018 (44 U.S.C. Ch. 35). NASS employees and contractors must comply with these confidentiality rules.
