Glider Owners: FAA Demands Propeller Ring Check-Up

Published Date: 10/5/2026

Proposed Rule

Summary

If you own a DG Aviation GmbH DG-1000T glider, the FAA wants you to update your flight manual and check your propeller adapter ring. You can fix the problem by installing a new design part, which lets you remove the 'Motor INOP' signs. Comments on this proposal are open until November 19, 2026, and these changes help keep your glider safe without big costs.

Analyzed Economic Effects

6 provisions identified: 2 benefits, 4 costs, 0 mixed.

Optional Modification Restores Motor Use

You may optionally install the modification in DG Aviation GmbH Technical Note No. 1000/52, Issue 01.b, dated October 8, 2025; doing so is terminating action for the 'Motor INOP' restriction and allows removal of the placards. The FAA estimates replacing the adapter disk, installing safety pins and dynamic balancing weights costs about $1,211 per glider (1 work-hour = $85 plus $1,126 parts).

Immediate 'Motor INOP' Placard and Manual Revision

If you operate a DG Aviation GmbH Model DG-1000T glider, you must revise the flight manual and install "Motor INOP" placards within 3 days after July 25, 2025, or remove the powerplant. The FAA estimates revising the manual costs 1 work-hour ($85) and fabricating/installing the placard costs 1 work-hour plus $35 in parts (total $120 per glider). The AD states it would affect two U.S.-registered gliders.

Mandatory Propeller Adapter Disk Inspection and Safety Pins

The proposed AD requires removal, inspection, and reinstallation of the propeller adapter disk and installation of safety pins following the procedures in DG Aviation GmbH Technical Note No. 1000/52, Issue 01.b (dated October 8, 2025). These actions are required by the AD to address propeller-separation risk.

Ban on Installing Specific Adapter Ring Part Number

From the effective date of the AD, you must not install any propeller adapter ring having part number P/N 10 M 067, version a, or any earlier approved part number on any DG-1000T glider. The prohibition applies to maintenance/installation actions on these gliders.

No Special Flight Permits Allowed

The proposed AD states that special flight permits as described in 14 CFR 21.197 and 21.199 are not allowed for affected gliders. This means operators cannot obtain special permits to fly the glider before required corrective actions are completed.

Credit for Earlier Compliance Actions

If you performed the flight manual revision required by paragraph (g)(1) before the effective date of this AD using DG aviation GmbH Service Information No. 116-25, Issue 01.a, dated May 5, 2025, you receive credit and do not need to redo that action under this AD.
