Education Dept Keeps Teacher Grant Forms Exactly the Same

Published Date: 10/7/2026

Notice

Summary

The Department of Education wants to keep using the same forms for the TEACH Grant Program, which helps future teachers pay for college. They’re asking for public feedback by December 7, 2026, but no changes or new costs are planned. If you’re a TEACH Grant recipient, this means you’ll keep certifying your teaching service or requesting suspensions the same way as before.

Analyzed Economic Effects

3 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 1 costs, 1 mixed.

TEACH Grant terms and loan conversion risk

TEACH Grants provide up to $4,000 per year to eligible students who agree to complete four years of qualifying teaching within eight years after ceasing enrollment. A recipient may request temporary suspensions or, if subject to an extended military call to active-duty, may receive a discharge, but if a recipient fails to complete the service obligation the TEACH Grants are converted to Direct Unsubsidized Loans with interest charged from the date of each TEACH Grant disbursement.

TEACH forms extended without change

The Department proposes to extend without change the existing TEACH Grant Service Obligation Certification and Suspension Request forms (OMB Control No. 1845-0158). The agency says no changes or new costs are planned and is seeking public comments by December 7, 2026.

Estimated paperwork burden for TEACH forms

The Department estimates 54,495 total annual responses and 17,982 total annual burden hours for the TEACH Grant Certification and Suspension Request forms. Respondents are listed as individuals and households.
