Published Date: 10/8/2026

Notice

Summary

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is asking the public and other agencies to comment on a paperwork update aimed at making things easier, especially for small businesses with fewer than 25 employees. They want your thoughts by November 9, 2026, to help reduce the hassle and keep everything running smoothly. This is part of a government effort to cut down on unnecessary forms and save time and money.

Analyzed Economic Effects

3 provisions identified: 0 benefits, 3 costs, 0 mixed.

Broadcast License Renewal Burden

If you operate a broadcast station, you must apply to renew your license every eight years using FCC Form 2100, LMS Schedule 303-S. The collection covers 4,738 respondents with an estimated time per response of 0.075 to 12 hours, a total annual burden of 13,090 hours, and a total annual cost of $4,181,731; responding is required to obtain or retain your license.

On-Air Renewal Notice Requirement

If your station locally originates programming and seeks renewal, you must give local public notice with a total of six on-air announcements: at least one per week, no more than one per day or two per week, broadcast between 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m. local time, Monday through Friday, beginning after the application is accepted for filing.

Online Notice for Translators, Silent, and Non-Local Stations

If you operate an FM or TV translator, an LPTV station that does not locally originate programming, or a silent station, you must post notice online for 30 continuous days following acceptance of the renewal application, either on the station website, an affiliated site, or a publicly accessible, locally targeted website.
