Nasdaq Jacks Up Stock Listing Price to $4—Bye Cheap IPOs?

Published Date: 10/13/2026

Notice

Summary

Nasdaq is raising the minimum price for new listings on its Capital Market to $4 per share, up from the previous $2-$4 range. This change affects companies wanting to list their stocks and aims to keep the market strong and reliable. The new rule is effective immediately, so companies should be ready to meet the new price bar right away.

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 0 benefits, 1 costs, 1 mixed.

Minimum $4 listing price required

If you are a company trying to list on the Nasdaq Capital Market, your security must have a minimum share price of $4.00 to meet initial listing standards. Nasdaq filed this change on September 30, 2026, and intends to make it operative 30 days after filing (October 30, 2026); it removes the former option that allowed initial listings at $3 or $2 when certain net-asset or revenue tests (for example, net tangible assets of $2 million or $5 million, or average revenues of $6 million) were met.

Public list and monitoring of legacy low‑price listings

Nasdaq will keep and publish a website list of companies that initially listed under the former Alternative Price Requirement and that no longer meet the net-asset or revenue tests and do not meet other penny-stock exclusions. Nasdaq will maintain that list for as long as such companies remain listed and will add a summary of the former rule into IM-5505-2 to clarify its status as a former rule.
