DoD Teams with Treasury to Sniff Out Bogus Military Health Payments

Published Date: 10/14/2026

Notice

Summary

The Department of Defense is starting a new program to double-check Military Health Benefits payments by matching their records with the Treasury’s Do Not Pay system. This helps catch and stop wrong payments, saving money and protecting your info. The program kicks off after December 14, 2026, and runs through September 10, 2029, with public comments welcome until the deadline.

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 0 benefits, 1 costs, 1 mixed.

TRICARE West records checked against Do Not Pay

If you apply for or receive Federal funds from the Military Health Benefits--TRICARE West Region Program, the Department of Defense will compare your TRICARE West records with the Treasury Do Not Pay (DNP) Working System to verify prepayment or pre-award eligibility. The public comment period ends December 14, 2026; the match becomes effective the day after that (December 15, 2026) unless changed, and will run through September 10, 2029.

Sensitive personal and banking data will be matched

If you are an applicant or recipient of TRICARE West funds, your personal information — including your name, Social Security Number (SSN) or Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN), address, date of birth, and payment/banking information — will be compared with Treasury's Do Not Pay records as part of this matching program. This matching is scheduled to be in effect starting after December 14, 2026 and continuing through September 10, 2029.
