Cboe Adds a Start Button for Orders, Because Timing Matters

Published Date: 11/2/2026

Notice

Summary

Cboe EDGA Exchange is updating its rules to add a new 'Start Time' order instruction, letting traders specify when their orders should begin. This change matches a similar feature already used by its sister exchange, EDGX, and aims to give traders more control without extra costs. The update took effect right away on October 15, 2026, and affects anyone placing orders on the EDGA Exchange.

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 1 costs, 0 mixed.

Optional Start Time for Orders

You can designate a Start Time for orders entered on the EDGA Exchange in thirty-minute increments prior to the commencement of Regular Trading Hours. Because orders are not eligible for execution before the Early Trading Session, the earliest Start Time that will have practical effect is 7:00 a.m. ET and the latest permissible Start Time is 9:00 a.m. ET; at each Start Time orders are handled in time sequence beginning with the oldest time stamp.

Timing for Restricted Order Types

The Exchange ties existing pre‑execution acceptance restrictions to the later of 7:00 a.m. ET or an order's designated Start Time. The restricted categories that will not be accepted prior to that time remain: orders with a Post Only instruction; intermarket sweep orders (ISOs); Market Orders (except those with a Time‑in‑Force of Regular Hours Only or a Stop Price); orders with a Minimum Execution Quantity plus a TIF of Regular Hours Only; and all orders with IOC or FOK time‑in‑force.
