Summary
This bill would permanently protect the official geographic names of the five Great Lakes by banning the President, the Secretary of the Interior, and other federal officers from altering, redesignating, or renaming them. It would also invalidate Executive Order 14422, which renamed Lake Ontario as Lake America, and bar issuing, implementing, administering, or funding any executive action that carries out that renaming or a substantially similar action.

Stops federal renaming of Great Lakes
If enacted, the bill would cancel Executive Order 14422 (issued August 27, 2026). It would preserve the official geographic names of the five Great Lakes: Lake Superior, Lake Michigan, Lake Huron, Lake Erie, and Lake Ontario. The bill would bar the President, the Secretary of the Interior, and federal officers and employees from changing or redesignating those official names. It would also prohibit issuing or enforcing any executive action meant to carry out that renaming and would bar the use of Federal funds to implement such actions. These limits would take effect upon enactment.
