Lower import duties on school supplies
This bill would stop new import duties above the Jan 19, 2025 rate for many school supplies. It would list specific tariff codes (for backpacks, notebooks, pens, crayons, keyboards, and similar items) and let the Commerce and Education Secretaries add classroom items by rule. Duties from antidumping/countervailing actions and section 201 safeguards would not be covered. The Commerce Secretary would report every 180 days to tax committees. Congress could block new designations using a fast joint resolution process.
