Temporary protection for Salvadorans in U.S.
If enacted, the Secretary of Homeland Security would be required to designate El Salvador for Temporary Protected Status upon enactment. That designation would last until March 9, 2028 (18 months after September 9, 2026) and would be required notwithstanding any other provision of law. If you are a Salvadoran national or were born in El Salvador and meet existing TPS rules, you would be protected from deportation while the designation is in effect. You would be able to apply for a work permit while protected. The bill does not add new eligibility rules, work-permit details, or funding for implementation.
