This bill would add Medicare coverage for qualified acupuncturist services. Only licensed acupuncturists, or in states without licensure those who meet criteria set by the Secretary, could be paid. Physicians whom their state allows to perform acupuncture could also bill. Supplies used during the visit could be covered when state law allows. Medicare would pay under the physician fee schedule, and hospitals could bill separately for inpatient acupuncture. Coverage and billing would start for services given 270 days after enactment.
