Standardized public waterway and fishing data

The law sets one standard for waterway and fishing maps within 30 months. Within 5 years, agencies post this GIS data online for everyone. Maps show fishing closures, gear limits, and catch and release rules. They list boat ramps, portages, access sites, opening dates, and depth charts when possible. They show closures, inspections, seasonal dates, speed and no wake zones, and allowed craft and activities. Access and restriction data update at least twice a year; fishing rules update in real time, as much as possible. Agencies can work with USGS, States, Tribes, tech firms, and nonprofits, and take public comments. Public maps do not reveal locations of historic or archaeological sites.

Covered waters and authority stay same

The law defines key terms and the covered agencies: Reclamation, National Park Service, BLM, Fish and Wildlife Service, and Forest Service. It does not change the federal definition of navigable waters or State and Federal authority over waters and fisheries. It does not change which waters are open to hunting, fishing, or recreation as of enactment. Irrigation canals and flowage easements are not covered. These rules take effect now.
