Easier VA disability for military firefighters
If enacted, this bill would make it easier for military firefighters to get VA disability benefits. You would qualify if you trained in fire suppression and served at least five total years in a firefighting or damage control job on active duty. These diseases would be presumed service-related if they cause at least a 10% disability and show up within 15 years after separation. The presumption would apply even without a service medical record of the disease. VA could add more diseases or change the time window by regulation, and award dates would follow current VA effective-date rules.
