Keep TANF funding through 2026

If enacted, the bill would keep TANF running under the fiscal year 2023 rules through September 30, 2026. The government would provide whatever money is needed from Treasury funds not otherwise appropriated. States and HHS would keep offering TANF cash aid and related services. Activities under sections 403(c) and 418 would not be included.

States must add, not replace TANF funds

If enacted, starting October 1, 2025, states would have to use federal TANF money to add to, not replace, their own funds. The state’s chief executive would need to certify this. This aims to protect services for low-income families and parents who rely on TANF.
